Storyworld Design for Knights of Fortune
Inspired by Jörg Ihle’s “Story-worlds” concept, I crafted an immersive storyworld that was further developed and expanded. Set on a post-apocalyptic Earth, this world is so radically transformed it resembles a fantasy realm. Crystalline meteors sporadically crash down, spreading a corrupting influence that threatens all life. Players must confront and overcome this menace, navigating a landscape where the remnants of the old world intertwine with fantastical new elements.
ⓘ
- The setting was meticulously designed to offer a wide variety of possible gear and game elements.
- The crystal drops serve not only as a critical plot device but also as a mechanism to drive story progression. They generate dynamic daily and monthly missions, ensuring continuous engagement and fresh challenges for players.

Prototyping Process

The prototyping for Knights of Fortune was carried out in several, sometimes overlapping, steps:
Google Sheets: Developed gear and abilities with interconnected values. This document was continuously updated throughout the entire process.
Paper Prototype: As a deck-building game, I utilized a paper prototype to quickly and easily simulate different game loops, mechanics, and cards, akin to a card game.
Digital Prototype: The final step involved creating a digital prototype to test the UI and real-time interactions, ensuring a seamless and engaging player experience.
